Current Members of the Royal Family 

The Queen-The Queen, born in 1926 took the throne at the age of 25. She has reigned more than five decades and is currently the head of the UK and 15 other commonwealths. Thought of as the "nation's grandmother", she has four children and eight grandchildren.





 

Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh-Prince Phillip married the Queen on November 20, 1947. He was born the Prince of Greece and Denmark. His mother was Princess Alice, the oldest child of Prince Lois, who wed one of Queen Victoria's granddaughters. Thus both the Queen and Prince Phillip have Queen Victoria as a great-great-grandmother.

Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales-Prince Charles is the eldest child of the Queen and Prince Phillip. He was born November 14, 1948. When the Queen became the "Queen", he automatically became the Duke of Cornwall, the Scottish Peerage, the Duke of Rothesay, the Earl of Carrick, the Baron Renfrew, Lord of the Isles, and the Prince of the Great Steward of Scotland. He became the Prince of Wales and the Earl of Chester on July 26, 1958. He was the first Prince of Wales since 1936.

Princess Diana, the former Princess of Wales-Princess Diana was born July 1, 1961. She was the wife of Prince Charles, but on December 9, 1992, the prime minister announced that Princess Diana and Prince Charles had agreed to separate. They officially divorced on August 28, 1996. Princess Diana still remained an active member of the Royal Family. On August 31, 1997 the Princess was killed along with the driver of the car and her boyfriend,  in a car crash in Paris. Prince Charles immediately flew to Paris to bring the body back to London. Her funeral was on September 6, 1997.

Camilla Bowles, the Duchess of Cornwall- Camilla Bowles was born July 17, 1947 in London. She married Prince Charles April 9, 2005.  As the wife of Prince Charles she carries out his work and duties as heir to the throne. She also undertakes public engagements and is a patron or president of many charities.

 Prince William, the Prince of Wales-Prince William is the elder son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana. He was born June 21, 1982. Prince William was only 15 years old when his mother, Princess Diana died in a fatal car crash. He graduated from St. Andrews University in 2005 and has been involved with the army.

Prince Harry, the Prince of Wales-Prince Harry is the younger son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana. He was born September 15, 1984. He attended the same schools as Prince William and graduated from Eton College in 2008. Like his brother, he has been involved with the army, serving in Afghanistan for more than two months.

Prince Andrew, the Duke of York-Prince Andrew is the third child of the Queen and Prince Phillip. He was born February 19, 1960 and was the first child to be born in a reigning monarch for more than 103 years. He was named Prince Andrew until his marriage to Sarah Ferguson, the Dutchess of York, when he created the Duke of York.   While together, they had two children:  Beatrice of York, born on August 8, 1988 and Eugenie of York, born on March 23, 1990. In March 1992 they announced they were separating and they officially divorced in 1996. Both have joint custody of their children.

Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex-Prince Edward was born in 1964 and is the youngest child of the Queen and Prince Phillip. He was known as Prince Edward until he married Sophie Rhys-Jones, the Countess of Wessex in 1999, when he created the Earl of Wessex.

Sophie Rhys-Jones, the Countess of Wessex-Sophie Rhys-Jones is the wife of Prince Edward. Her and  her husband have two children together: Louise, born November 8, 2003 and Vicount Severn, born December 17, 2007. She supports her husband and undertakes public duties for a large number of her own charities. Sophie is involved with charities mostly relating to children with disabilities and communication problems.

Princess Anne, the Princess Royal-Princess Anne is the second oldest child of the Queen and Prince Phillip. She was born August 15, 1950. In June 1990, she became the first member of the Royal Family to visit the Soviet Union. Princess Anne has been married two times. First to Mark Phillips, whom she had two children with:Peter Phillips born on November 15, 1977 and Zara Phillips born on May 15, 1981. Princess Anne and Mark Phillips divorced in 1992. She then married an army commander named Timothy Laurence.

Richard, the Duke of Gloucester-Richard is the first cousin of the Queen. He was born August 26, 1944. He is the second son of the late Duke of Gloucester and the late Duchess of Gloucester. He became heir to his father's titles following the death of his older brother.

Birgitte, The Duchess of Gloucester-Birgitte was born June 20, 1946 and is currently the wife of Richard, the Duke of Gloucester. They wed in 1972 and have three children together: Alexander, the Earl of Ulster born in 1974, the Lady Davina Lewis born in 1977 and the Lady Rose Gilman born in 1980. All of their children do not carry out any royal duties. They also have a grandson, known as the Lord Culloden born in 2007 to the Earl and Countess of Ulster.

Prince Edward, Duke of Kent-The Duke of Kent was born in 1935 and is a cousin to both Prince Phillip and the Queen. He is the son to the late Prince George and the late Princess Marina, who is the daughter of Prince Nicholas of Greece. He inherited the title in 1942 after his father's death. 

Katharine, the Duchess of Kent-Katharine is the wife of Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent. She was born February 22, 1933. Together they have three children: George, the Earl of St. Andrews born June 1962, the Lady Helen Taylor born April 1964 and the Lord Nicholas Windsor born July 1970. They also have five grandchildren together. All of their children do not carry out any Royal duties.

Princess Alexandra-Princess Alexandra is the second child of the late Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. She is the Duke of Kent's and Prince Michael's sister. She was born Christmas Day, 1936. She wed  the late Angus of Ogilvy, the second son of the Earl of Airlie, on April 24, 1963. Together they have two children:Marina born in 1966 and James born in 1964. Their children don't carry out Royal duties.

Prince Michael of Kent-Prince Michael of Kent was born July 4, 1942. He is also the cousin to the Queen and Prince Phillip. Princess Alexandra and the Duke of Kent are his siblings. He wed Baroness Marie-Christine von Reibnits in 1978 and together they have two children:Frederick born in 1979 and Gabriella born in 1981. Both of their children still have claim to the throne.
